What to do if your tax forms are missing information you need

If you received a tax form and information you need to complete your tax return is blank, you should contact the issuer of that form to get the missing information. In some cases you may be able to request the missing information, such as a federal ID number for a school, without the need for an updated form.

Not all fields are used on every tax form, but some may be required to complete your return. If you believe information is missing from a form you received, you should contact the issuer of that form. Certain missing information may require you to get a corrected form, so it’s a good idea to do this as soon as possible.
