#Good news! The IRS has extended the tax deadline to April 18th! As long as you submit your federal return by midnight on 4/18/2018, you won't be considered a late filer for your federal return. Direct debit tax payments that are submitted with your federal return (or on the IRS website) by 4/18 are also considered timely filed ×

How much can I save with the qualified plug-in electric drive vehicle credit?

The base credit is $2,500. You could get an extra $417 if your vehicle draws propulsion energy from a battery with at least five kilowatt hours of capacity. Then you may be able to take another $417 for each kilowatt hour of battery capacity that exceeds 5 kilowatt hours. The maximum credit you could be eligible for is $7,500.

The vehicle’s manufacturer should offer certification to the IRS of its eligibility, and possibly even the amount of the credit.
