Why do I owe the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) this year?

The Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) is designed to limit some tax benefits for high-income taxpayers and ensure that they pay at least a minimum amount of tax. Determining if you owe AMT requires you to calculate both your regular tax and your tentative minimum tax. Credit Karma Tax does this for you. If your tentative minimum tax exceeds your regular tax, you will owe the AMT.

Refer to “What is the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) article to find out more about the calculation of AMT.
