Can I claim the Earned Income Credit?

 

Credit Karma Tax will help determine if you qualify for the EIC and the amount of your credit based on the information you provide.

Claiming the Earned Income Credit with children who are not listed on your return as dependents is not supported with Credit Karma Tax.

If you meet all of the requirements below, you may be eligible to claim the credit:

  1. Your filing status can’t be married filing separately.
  2. You (or your spouse if you file a joint return) must have earned income within certain limits.
  3. You, your spouse and any qualifying child you list on your tax return must each have a valid Social Security Number that was issued before the due date of your return (including extensions).
  4. You (and your spouse if you file a joint return) must be a US Citizen or resident alien all year and lived in the US for more than half of the year.
  5. You (and your spouse if you file a joint return) can’t be claimed as a dependent or qualifying child by another person.
  6. You (or your spouse if you file a joint return) must be at least 25 years old but younger than 65 years old at the end of the tax year.
