#Good news! The IRS has extended the tax deadline to April 18th! As long as you submit your federal return by midnight on 4/18/2018, you won't be considered a late filer for your federal return. Direct debit tax payments that are submitted with your federal return (or on the IRS website) by 4/18 are also considered timely filed ×

Claiming a deduction for charitable miles driven

If you used your vehicle while volunteering for a charity, you may be able to deduct the number of miles driven for charitable purposes. For example, you can deduct the miles driven to and from your house to the charitable organization if you volunteered to work for them.

Go to this section in Credit Karma Tax: Gifts to Charity

You must keep a reliable, written record of the number of miles driven. Your records should include all of the following:

    1. The name of the organization you volunteered for.
    2. The date(s) you used your car for the charitable purpose.
    3. The number of miles you drove your car for the charitable purpose
