If you used your vehicle while volunteering for a charity, you may be able to deduct the number of miles you drove for charity purposes. You’re allowed a charitable deduction of 14 cents per mile.
You must keep a reliable, written record of the number of miles driven. Some things your records should show are:
- The name of the organization you volunteered for.
- The date you used your car for charity purposes.
- Starting and ending miles driven.
