What is Earned Income?

Earned income includes all the taxable income and wages you get from from certain disability payments or from working for someone else or running your own business or farm. Your eligibility for the Earned Income Credit, is based on your Earned Income and other qualifying factors. 

Some examples of earned income are: 

  • Salaries, wages and tips
  • Net profit from self-employment under certain conditions
  • Strike benefits paid by a union to its members
