What is a Serve Card?

The Serve Card is a Prepaid Debit Account, available to U.S. residents who are over 18 years old (or 19 in certain states). Serve Cards can be used virtually anywhere American Express® Cards are accepted worldwide, subject to verification. Other eligibility and restrictions apply. How can I use the money on my Serve Card?

Purchases

Use your Card in-store and online at millions of merchants that accept American Express cards worldwide.

ATM withdrawals

Use your Serve Card at an ATM to get cash. Get free withdrawals at over 24,000 MoneyPass® ATMs nationwide. If you use a non-MoneyPass ATM, you’ll be charged a $3.50 fee. There’s a daily limit of $750 for cash withdrawals.

Cash Pickup Powered by Ria®

Withdraw up to $2,900 using Cash Pickup Powered by Ria® at any Walmart store in the U.S. or Puerto Rico for a small fee ($3.49-$9.49 depending on the amount of your withdrawal).

Bill payments

You can pay bills using your card directly at a retailer or service provider, or by using American Express Serve’s Online Bill Pay.

Can I have my Serve Card delivered to a PO Box?

No, you must provide a physical address to ship your Serve Card to.

When do I receive my tax refund?

The IRS issues most refunds in less than 21 days. When they do, they’ll automatically send it to your Serve Card (typically 1 - 2 days after the IRS issues your refund).

Are there monthly fees?

There are no monthly fees associated with your Serve Card. There are also no usage fees with your Serve Card but other fees including out-of-network ATM fees may apply. Learn more about the card fees on the American Express Serve website.

What about ATM fees?

You can make free cash withdrawals at over 24,000 MoneyPass® ATMs nationwide.

There is a $3.50 fee (plus any ATM owner/operator fees) for using a non-MoneyPass ATM. For more info, visit the American Express Serve® website.

Can I get cash with my Serve Card?

You can withdraw cash from your Serve Card account for free at over 24,000 MoneyPass® ATMs nationwide. If you go to a non-MoneyPass ATM, there’s a $3.50 fee (plus any ATM owner/operator fees.

You can only withdraw $750 from your account per day, so if you have a hefty refund and you want to withdraw it all as cash, you might need to do so over multiple days.

Make sure you set up your Serve Account online to set your ATM PIN or Log into your Account at serve.com and go to Setting/Profile to update your ATM PIN.

How do I find my Serve Account and routing information?

Log in to your American Express Serve® Account to view your account and routing numbers. You can view this information after you’ve received and activated your Serve Card.

Where is my Serve Card?

It can take up to 10 business days to receive your card in the mail. If it’s been longer than that, or if you think your Card was sent to the wrong address, you can request a replacement Card online:

  1. Log into your Serve Account on the American Express Serve website.
  2. Hit Settings and then Request Replacement Card.
  3. Complete the form.
  4. Choose a shipping preference: 
    • Free – Standard Shipping: Card will arrive in 7-10 business days.
    • $20.00 – Expedited Shipping: Card will arrive in 3-4 business days. Not available to customers in Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

What should I do if my Serve Card is lost, stolen, or damaged?

You can request a replacement Serve Card online:
