Can I claim my spouse as a dependent?

You can’t claim your spouse as your dependent. However, if they lived with you for more than half the year and are physically or mentally unable to care for themselves, you may be able to claim the Child and Dependent Care Credit if you paid expenses for their care, even though they’re not your dependent.
