I am having trouble getting through Step 2 of registration. What’s going wrong?

As you’re signing up, Credit Karma asks for some personal information that we’ll use to hunt down your credit file. If you’re having trouble with this step, check out the tips below.

1. Try former names or addresses.

When  you provide your personal information, we match it up with  TransUnion’s credit files. If you’re getting stuck, it could be because the information TransUnion has is slightly different from what you’re entering.

For your name, try prior  names or nicknames you may have used on credit applications. For example, if your name changed after you got  married, your credit file may still be under your former name.

For your address, make sure you try any recent former addresses.

2. Check the box at the bottom.

After you enter your information, you’ll have to click a box at the bottom of the window to authorize us to gather your credit report.

3. Enter your full phone number.

In order for you to register, we need your full phone number. Your cursor might  not automatically jump from one box to the next, so you may need to click between boxes to enter each part of your phone number. Include your area code, but leave out the country code (+1) before it.

4. Consider entering your Social Insurance number.

Providing your SIN is completely optional, but we’ll have a better chance of locating your credit info if you do.

5. Ask for help.

If you’ve hit all these bases and you’re still stumped, Reach out for some help through our contact page.
